Twenty-one Democratic members of the U.S. House of Representatives, led by Rep. Don Beyer, have formally pressed PJM Interconnection to enact substantial reforms to its heavily backlogged interconnection queue process. The lawmakers argue that PJM's current system is severely delaying new generation projects, especially clean energy resources, hindering economic growth and clean energy deployment across the RTO's 13-state service territory. They urged PJM to modernize its queue management by implementing a clustered study approach and adopting measures to accelerate study timelines, similar to reforms advocated by FERC. Failure to reform the process risks increasing costs for developers and preventing essential clean capacity from reaching consumers.
